reflex asked:
This question is only for people who currently have HSV 2. Is it certain foods or drinks, clothing, activities, stress, sleep, etc. I take 500mg. of acyclovir twice a day, eat well, exercise and have no other health issues, yet I am still having outbreaks (or at least they begin-I double the dosage to curtail the outbreak). I haven’t had sex in a year and am afraid intercourse will cause a real problem. I have had HSV2 for two years now. Thanks for any help.

i usually only get an outbreak during my period. I have heard the longer you have it the less frequent and severe the outbreaks.

Well i’ve gotten pretty lucky I guess. I don’t relly get breakouts, and have stopped taking valtrex. I take (vitamins) l- Lysine one- 3 times a day during a breakout, and 2 everyday for prevention. I also take vitamin C, and zinc. I’ve heard a lot of websites reccomend this, and it has worked for me. Also try this website- I ordered some the other day, but it sounds amazing. Good luck

When I first got it every summer I would get an outbreak when it was hot out. I took acyclovir it didn’t help much except to get rid of it faster once it broke out. Stressing about it will cause it to breakout also. You need to stop thinking about it and try to lower your stress. Once you do that it wont come back. I have not had a outbreak for 3 years now. Had it now for 8 years.

The thing about diseases and the immune system is that everyone is different. Everyone has to figure out for themself what triggers an event.
Personally, I wouldn’t stress about it too much. Statistically speaking; your sex partner probably has HSV 1, probably in their mouth, and might have HSV 2. Both viruses are so common that they can’t blame you if they get em since they may have had them for years.

I’ve heard that artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and chocolate can cause outbreaks. Also stress, sex, and hormonal changes can cause outbreaks to.
